Activities at Swing into Oceans Week:
Swing dancing on the waterfront
This will be the main activity (or atleast the one that hopefully draws people in): I have been working with the DalKing’s Swing Dance Society for this. We have dancers coming to help set up the temporary dance floor and we are arranging DJs. This will happen from 12-4pm. This is volunteer based so there should not be a cost associated with this.
Marine Animal face painting
For this event, we are trying to get one of our friends (who is a tattoo artist) to come do some simple face painting for kids and adults. We were thinking of having two fairly easy options for people to choose from. Perhaps the cost for this would be buying some eco-friendly face paints. ($20-40)
Hear how a whale hears
A simple device made from a metal coat hanger, string and a fork to demonstrate what noise in the ocean is like for whales. We will be making this. All we need for set up would be a table. No costs associated with this.
Cardboard shark game
WWF-Canada (where I am doing my internship) has a large cardboard cutout of a shark mouth and some fish hacky sacks for kids to throw into it’s mouth. There is no cost associated with this but maybe we can have little prizes for those that get 3 fish out of 5 in the shark’s mouth or something ($20-30)
SOC table and whale tail
We will definitely have the whale tail and can arrange bringing it to the Keith’s event later. We will need a table to set up information for the conference as well as raffle basket, bracelets etc. No costs associate with this.
