How and Why We Map the Ocean Geographic information system (GIS) technology, which has long provided effective solutions for integrating, visualizing and analyzing information about land, is now being similarly applied to oceans. Our ability to measure change in the oceans—including open ocean, nearshore and coast—is increasing, not only because of improved measuring devices and scientific techniques, but also because new GIS technology is aiding us in better understanding this dynamic environment. Join us at the Canadian Oceans Fourm and discover ways muli-dimensional data and web apps can help yo put scientific information to work in your organization. Consider the potential of sharing knolwledge across disciplines and collaborating with multiple stakeholders. Work with the ocean GIS community as it forges new and better concepts in ocean analytics and applications towards ocean sustainability. In addtion to this, day 2 will include a hands-on-workshop where you will work with GIS technology benefiting oceans communities. Learn about collecting data, integrating and sharing with other sources, and services that help us understand the ocean.
