Bio/Trash Blitz in Point Pleasant Park

  • Point Pleasant Park (map)

Sunday, June 10, 2018

Join the EAC volunteers for a bio blitz and clean up in Point Pleasant Park.  A bio blitz is an event where participants visit an ecosystem and identify as many species of plants and animals as possible.  Bio Blitz-ing is a great opportunity to gain an appreciation for local biodiversity, help gather important scientific data, and develop your skills as a naturalist!  This event is for everyone - we welcome all levels of experience and knowledge.  We will have trained ecologists on site to help you identify species.  In addition, we are encouraging participants to download the "Seek" app and upload their findings to iNaturalist.

In addition to a wide range species of plants and animals, you might notice an invader lurking in their midst - trash!  Marine debris is one of the greatest threats facing the health of our oceans and marine life.  This is why we've dubbed this event a Bio and Trash Blitz.  Over the course of the event, we will encourage you to help by picking up any trash you find along the way.  Clean-up materials will be provided, but we encourage you to bring your own reusable and washable gloves - although we will have gloves on hand, this helps reduce the waste footprint of the event.
