*** Please arrive by 3:30PM
For Ocean's Week 2018, come out for a paddle and help collect "Ocean Treasures!" The ocean holds many sorts of treasures, but the kind of treasures that we'll be looking for on this paddle are the sort that aren't supposed to be there — plastic. Marine debris is a growing threat to our oceans, and by cleaning it up, we can help protect the oceans, and ourselves.
The tour will run from 4-6pm, so please arrive by 3:30pm in order to fill out paperwork and get suited up. To book your spot, call East Coast Outfitters at 902-852-2567 NOW! Cost is $30 plus taxes with proceeds going to The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.
This cleanup is an official Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup event, so please also sign up at http://shorelinecleanup.ca/cleanups/1x3zk
Your guide, Jennifer MacLatchy, is an Interdisciplinary PhD student at Dalhousie University, an artist, and a kayak guide at East Coast Outfitters. She has been collecting marine debris for years, and has developed an art practice and research focus surrounding this issue. She regularly posts pictures of her marine debris collections, titled "Ocean Treasures," on social media. She is particularly interested in engaging with marine debris through art as a method for finding ways to enact an ethics of care towards our oceans and each other, despite the seeming futility of environmental efforts in the anthropocene era.
